The Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA) announced the winners of the Crane & Rigging Safety, Zero Accident Awards, and Crane & Rigging Safety Improvement during its 2012 Annual Conference, April 17-21, at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines, Austin, Texas.

LEEA Makes Case for LOLER

The LEEA has responded to the UK Government’s review of health and safety legislation by voicing support for retaining LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) in its present form. The LEEA believes that watering down LOLER, or merging it with PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations), is unlikely to reap any significant cost savings for industry, but could undermine standards of safety in overhead lifting.

The Association For Manufacturing Technology Elects New Board of Directors and Officers

The Association For Manufacturing Technology elected its 2012-2013 officers and directors on Saturday, March 10, at its 2012 Annual Meeting in Orlando, Fla. This is the first board of directors to be elected following the March 8 merger of AMT and AMTDA - The American Machine Tool Distributors’ Association.

IADC Names Colville as New President, Succeeding 28 Year Vet Dr. Lee Hunt

The International Association of Drilling Contractors announces the appointment of Stephen A. Colville to the position of President. This follows the retirement of Dr. Lee Hunt, who has held that office for the past 22 years. Mr Colville assumes his new position on 1 March.

“It has been a privilege, and a pleasure, to be afforded the opportunity to serve this great industry,” Dr. Hunt remarked. “Many friendships, fond memories and shared experiences have made the last quarter century the absolute best career anyone could imagine.”

LEEA Elects Phil White As New Chair and President

Phil White, joint managing director of Servtech, has been elected chair of the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA). He replaces Chris Towne, who has completed his two year tenure in the post.

Welcoming his new role, Phil White said: “I am extremely keen that the LEEA becomes a truly global entity and continues to develop and extend its portfolio of practical training courses. With Geoff Holden as chief executive we have already made good progress towards these objectives and it is important that the board continues to support him.”

IADC Names New Officers, Announce Rabun New Chairman

Daniel Rabun, Chairman, President and CEO, Ensco, plc, has been elected 2012 Chairman of the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC). In addition, David W. Williams, Chairman of the Board, President and CEO, Noble Corporation, was elected Vice Chairman. Messrs Rabun and Williams will head up IADC’s 2012 leadership team, which includes the following newly elected officers:

LEEA Reaches 500th Member

The Indonesian branch of All-Rig Lifting and Engineering Supplies Pty Ltd has become the 500^th member of the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA). Originally formed in 1944, the LEEA has expanded rapidly in recent years, with membership more than tripling since 2003.

Welcoming its latest member, Geoff Holden, chief executive of the LEEA, said: “The growing interest in LEEA membership reflects the quality and integrity of the training, accreditation and support services we provide for the overhead lifting industry.

SC&RA Join With Others To Establish International Crane Stakeholders Assembly

Prior to the start of the World Crane & Transport Summit, SC&RA Executive Vice President Joel Dandrea and Vice President Beth O’Quinn participated in an international meeting with representatives from the Crane Industry Council of Australia (CICA), the European Association of Abnormal Road Transport and Mobile Cranes (ESTA), the Federation Europeene de la Manutention (FEM), the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) and members of Oil and Gas Producers (OGP).

LEEA Boosts Training and Technical Audit Teams

In response to a rapidly growing membership, which now numbers over 450 companies worldwide, the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) has expanded both its training and technical audit teams.  The LEEA has taken on extra staff to help meet demand for its range of practical training courses, and to undertake the on-site technical audits which all companies must pass before they are granted full membership.
