The Houston Business Journal is reporting that Houston’s mega-sized Offshore Technology Conference is ready to kick off May 5 with all the pomp and circumstance the energy sector and 100,000 participants can muster.
OTC 2014 comes to Houston for its 45th anniversary at the newly renamed NRG Park with more than 2,700 exhibitors covering a record 680,000 square feet, said OTC Chairman Ed Stokes.

Exhibit space sales for the National Industrial Fastener & Mill Supply Expo scheduled for October 22-24, 2014 at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas, Nevada USA are running 14% ahead of the same time last year. “We only have 144 booths remaining and are expecting a complete sell-out”, reports Susan A. The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) Wire Rope workgroup has held three Wire Rope Workshops, the fourth in the series ‘Optimum System Design for High Value Subsea Construction Ropes’ will be held 18 March 2014 at the Radisson Blu Hotel at Amsterdam Airport.
“Our bi-annual Wire Rope Workshops are proving extremely relevant and interesting. Over 90 attended the last one in Amsterdam in October which focused on the lubrication of high value subsea construction ropes; others have looked at high value wire rope issues, and at non-destructive testing” explains IMCA’s Technical Director, Jane Bugler.
“The March event will embrace the operators’ view of current and future system requirements; the system designer’s approach for wire rope interaction (storage, routing, winches, sheaves and active heave systems); rope qualification methods for specific systems; fully integrated monitoring systems and interaction with rope system; and multi-fail and parallel winch systems in deep water. LEEA (Lifting Equipment Engineers Association) is hosting another of its popular ‘Lifting the Load – Out on the Road’ Roadshows at the Hilton Hotel in Bristol in the UK, on Tuesday March 18th. Offering expert presentations on the safe and legal use of overhead lifting equipment, as well as an introduction to the work of LEEA and its members, admission to the event is free-of-charge for visitors who register in advance.
Topics covered by the presentations include an overview of the documentation that should accompany lifting equipment in the UK, which is a common cause of concern and misunderstanding among end users and suppliers alike.
