Checkmate’s feature-packed fall protection range lifts the LEEA Innovation Award for 2014

Oliver Auston CheckmateCheckmate has emerged as the winner of the LEEA Innovation Award for Best Product at LiftEx 2014, the annual trade exhibition for the overhead lifting industry that was co-located at the Safety and Health Expo, ExCel London, June 17th-19th. The company’s Vantage VI harness and Checkfall Lanyard ranges, which incorporate a host of novel features that improve fall protection and product durability, secured the top prize for UK-based Checkmate, which specializes in height safety and textile lifting.

New features of the Checkmate products that impressed the judges include ‘wear indicating’ webbing, reflective yarns that are woven into the fibre of the material, fall indicator deployment systems, retractable flexible label covers, Teflon-coated webbing and trapezoidal links. Continue reading

OSHA Releases Top 10 Violations for 2013

Once again, Fall Protection topped the list of workplace safety violations most often cited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The Top 10 was revealed on Oct. 1 during the 2013 National Safety Council Congress & Expo. “We appreciate our colleagues at OSHA sharing their most recent data as we look toward Leading Safety into the Future,” said National Safety Council President and CEO Janet Froetscher. “Today’s presentation reminds us that it’s very important to learn from the past and address these top violations to help make our workplaces safer.” Continue reading

Spider Hires Garry Bilodeau as District Sales Representative – Vancouver, BC

Garry Bilodeau 1Spider, a division of SafeWorks, LLC, announces Garry Bilodeau has joined its Vancouver, BC operation center as District Sales Representative. In this role, Bilodeau is responsible for solving the suspended scaffolding and fall protection challenges of contractors and facility owners throughout Canada.

Bilodeau boasts forty years of experience in the scaffolding industry, holding various sales and management positions with companies like Sky-Hi Scaffolding Ltd and Swing Stage Ltd. Most recently he served as Safety Manager for Suspended Stages Inc, where his responsibilities included swing stage and fall protection instructing, fabrication estimating, and sales and rentals. He has been actively involved in the Scaffold Industry Association of Canada for the past twenty-six years, serving on various committees and holding numerous roles including Western Canada National Director, BC Chapter President, and Safety Instructor. OSHA Issues Stiff Fine Against Disalle Bridge Contractor

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has issued APBN Inc. of Campbell 13 safety citations for failing to provide fall protection and implement water safety procedures for workers sandblasting and painting the Interstate 75 Disalle Bridge more than 40 feet above the Maumee River last October as part of an Ohio Department of Transportation project. The company faces penalties totaling $193,200 and will be placed in OSHA’s Severe Violator Enforcement Program. Continue reading
